| Instrument Maintenance/Class Preparation
Students need to perform on a quality instrument to be successful in band class. It is the student's responsibility to make sure that their instrument is in the best possible working condition throughout the year. If your instrument is in need of repair, please contact the store where you rented or purchased your instrument, as they normally have a trained repair staff. The band director is not a trained repair technician and has very limited capabilities and tools for doing such jobs. If you need the name of a qualified repair person, please look at the repair page on this site. If your instrument breaks during class, inform Ms. Reese by raising your hand, then practice silently with the band until the end of class. If your instrument breaks inside or outside of class, please give Ms. Reese a written note from your parent or guardian that includes the following information: 1. When the instrument broke 2 When it was taken to be repaired. 3. Where it was taken to be repaired. 4. When you expect to have it back in class. Without this information, being without your instrument will be unexcused, and you will receive a zero for the day. With this information, you can continue to earn your daily grade by bringing your music to class and doing silent practice with the band. However, if you choose to sit and do nothing, you will receive a zero for the day with or without the note. Discipline Procedures All school discipline procedures will be followed as detailed in the school hand book. Participation in the TMS band program is voluntary as an elective class. Each student's behavior and attitude affect the entire group and are highly important to the decision to participate. If a student has repeated attitude or behavior problems that cause classroom disruption, that student may be asked to find an elective class in which they may be successful without such conflicts. Uniforms Uniforms help promote a sense of unity and group identity. The Taylor band uniform consists of a black polo shirt (order forms will be sent home with your student), and tan pants. There will be no white stitching, patches, stripes, or printing of any kind on the pants. All performances are required in uniform. Shirts should be tucked in for performances. If you arrive for a performance out of uniform, you will not be allowed to participate and will be considered “absent” for the performance. There are no excuses for being out of uniform. Performances are announced well in advance. Travel On occasion the Taylor band may travel to events such as band camp and various festivals and other performances. When these travel events occur, the following procedures have been developed for the safety of your students. All school rules for on campus behavior and those governing travel will be in effect. Failure to follow these procedures and rules will result in an immediate parent call and an indefinite suspension of the students’ travel privileges with the group. Parents may be asked to pick up their student at the site of the event to avoid any other possible mishaps. -A parent permission slip must be filled out and returned to the band director by the due date communicated to the students during class. -An itinerary will be supplied to students. Return/pick up times will be on the permission slip. -Students will load and unload buses in a safe manner. -Students must show respect to and follow instructions from chaperones/bus drivers. -Students will sit in their seats facing forward at all times. -Students will respect the bus driver’s definition of a safe noise level for operation of the bus. -Students will not exit the bus until they have received instructions from the band director or chaperone. -In the event of a rest or meal stop, students will return to the bus in a timely fashion. -In the event of a late return, the band director will make an attempt to have some sort of communication at the pick up site as to the estimated time of arrival. -Parents will pick up their students promptly at the predetermined return time. |
