| All students will need:
-Band uniform shirt (order forms for these will be sent home on the first day of school) and tan pants. -Folding music stand for at home practice -Book: Essential Elements 2000 : 6th grade-Book 1; 7th/8th grade-Book 2 -Folder or notebook for class notes, handouts, and standards work -Clear plastic sleeves for notebook to hold sheet music -Pencils -A box of kleenex for the classroom Flute: -Cleaning rod -Soft cloth Clarinet: -4 playable reeds in case at all times -Reed holder -CorkGrease -Swab *I also recommend a Rovner ligature and Hite Premiere mouthpiece for clarinet, but these are not required. They will, however, produce a much better tone, and will help a beginner produce a much better tone much more quickly. Alto Saxophone: (Only beginners who have one year of playing experience on saxophone may start the year on this instrument. Beginners interested in Sax will start on clarinet and then transfer to sax with director approval ONLY.) -4 playable reeds in case at all times -Reed holder -Cork grease -Neck strap -Sax swab *I also recommend a Rovner ligature and Hite Premiere mouthpiece for alto sax, but these are not required. Percussionists will ADD snare drum to the list of instruments they play in January of their 6th grade year. All percussionists need to have a bell kit AND a snare drum. This is REQUIRED to be in the percussion section.** -Bell kit -Soft mallets -Hard mallets -Snare drum -Practice pad -Snare drum sticks *In seventh or eighth grade, students may choose to switch to another instrument such as French Horn, Oboe, Bassoon, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Baritone, or Tuba. All of these instruments are EXTREMELY important to the band's overall sound, but may be easier to play by older students because of their size or level of complexity. All of these instruments can be provided by the school because of their high cost. However, students will still need some of their own supplies to play these instruments. I recommend private lessons for most of these instruments.
